The city of Batam faced a challenge in optimizing and maximizing the garbage tariff revenues for the city administration. The old system was manual-based and there was no way of knowing which homes had collected the revenues and also if all the homes have been accounted for in the city. The challenge was multi-faceted and required building up a database of over 200,000 homes in a short period of time.
We developed a mobile billing system to handle all the garbage collection tariffs for the whole city of Batam. Injani took on the challenge with the building of three major subsystems: a fully web-based billing system, a Google Earth-based system to map out all homes graphically, and a mobile application to handle the recording of homes via GPS and monthly billing updates in real-time.
"The collectors are much more efficient now, with no need for cash reconciliation done at the end of the day. The city administration can visually look at the map of Batam via Google Earth and check that all homes are being accounted for. Monthly revenues increased by over 70% within 3 months of the project rollout."
